Photobooth Background Project
Making the Project:
When we were assigned this project, tons of ideas came into my mind. I wanted it to be large and have meaning behind it. I wanted people to look at it and figure out the deeper meaning to it like photographers and artists we have all looked at. I first thought one person but then the idea multipled to three people connected by holding hands. The holding hands was inspired by the valentine's day people who are cut out of paper to make their shape. Each person represents something in society. The first one, who is also many people's favorite, is consume. I wanted to show society's consumerism. I was more focused on the food aspect of consumerism because everyone loves food and I thought people could connect more to it. The second figure is reflect. This one, I believe, has the deepest meaning. It is for the audience or viewer to reflect on themselves. Shiny, silver circles cover the whole middle person. The goal was making these circles appear as mirrors for the viewer to look at themselves, theri reflection, in the person' s face. The third person concept changed a few times before I stuck with diversity. At first, I was thinking to make the third person to be knowledge and have pages adn words from all kinds of books and magazines. Then when I started finding books, I realized that this wasnt the perfect concept. Then I decided to write different sayings and quotes from all medias on sticky notes (books, movies, tv, authors, artists, actors, etc...). i put in some of my favorite quotes too. I think I saw something with sticky before on tv, or the computer or something. I was inspired by the meaning behind them. If you notice, the quotes aren't all in my handwritting. Some of the handwritting are from my parents and sister, showing the diversity of it. The colors and size of the quotes are unique and different too. I then glued magazine clippings with positive words and message all around the third person. To finish up the project I labeled each person with a pair of sunglasses with their concept in the glasses.
There was a lot of problem solving throughout the project. I've already discussed some issues and solutions in the first paragraph. One main problem in the course of this assignment was finding a material that was cutable and large enough to get three people on. I used a some kind of foam board from Home Depot. Another problem was making the people almost identical. I worked really hard measuring all parts of each person.
The materials I used were: 1 large foam board, scissors, glue, rulers, markers, pencils, pens, sticky notes, computer paper (used for the sunglasses I created on Publisher and word art), magazines, newspaper, all kinds of food labels and boxes, shiny silver circle, and tape.
If I could change anything it would be making the people stand up on their own and make them more sturdy. If I had more time, I would have loved to make more people. This was one of my favorite projects of all of my high school career. I believe this was very succesful because it can be a prop, a background, or can be the main subject matter. Everyone in the class enjoys it. My idea towards taking picture of the project was to make them be in all sorts of places around the school and my house. I also wanted to have comedy in it. I wanetd people to laugh and have fun with the photos. One example would be the people in the tree. I think it was more fun with how open the project was to get this kind of end product.
